Kindle Unlimited

What’s with the new Kindle Unlimited? Is your book eligible? Do you make any money if someone reads it?

Well, if your book is enrolled in KDP Select, it will automatically be in both the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library (KOLL) and Kindle Unlimited. Every book in the KOLL is enrolled in KDP Select, but Kindle Unlimited includes many other books. (How Amazon chooses those books is currently TBD.)

Kindle Unlimited and KOLL are separate programs that are both available at the same time. KOLL is available automatically to Amazon Prime members, and any Amazon customer can subscribe to Kindle Unlimited.

When a Kindle Unlimited customer chooses your book for the first time and reads more than 10% of it, or a KOLL user downloads it, their choice qualifies you to get a royalty payment. Customers can always read your book again, as many times as they like, but that won’t add to your royalty payments. You can even choose your own book and receive one royalty payment — as long as you’re reading it only for the first time, and read more than 10% of it.

These requirements apply to books in both the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library and Kindle Unlimited.
